No.1 positions on Google

The client

Ebuyer.com is one of the largest Internet retailers of brand name computer technology, consumer electronics and computer games. With over 300 employees Ebuyer service over 3 million registered customers offering over 20,000 quality products and this is growing every day. A hugely ambitious and entrepreneurial organisation partners and agencies need to share the same cultural values to make the relationship a success.

SEO agencies are a waste of time… aren’t they?

In an all too common situation Ebuyer had tried to use an SEO agency before but with no success.

After meeting to discuss the launch of another website Ebuyer saw something in Bloom that stood out from their previous agency experiences, we were able to quickly identify what they needed to do, were prepared to 'walk the talk' and encouraged a bonus led fee structure. We were initially tasked with their SEO (search engine optimisation) campaign but the brief quickly grew from there.

The initial challenge was to gain top rankings on the most competitive phrases for their laptops products and change a cynical organisation's perception of how important and successful SEO could be for their business.

SEO, rankings, traffic and orders

Ebuyer.com is a huge site with categories of products as large as most of their competitors entire websites. The key to success was to plan a campaign that could be seen to deliver results quickly and change the opinions of an understandably sceptical client.

We broke the campaign down into two main work streams, the first was technical consultancy to guide Ebuyer through making the entire site search engine friendly, with the second work stream focussing on their most important and most competitive category ‘laptops’. By concentrating on off-page optimisation efforts such as link building on this category we were able to quickly show significant improvements in rankings, traffic and orders.

With impressive results achieved, the remit was opened up to the entire site with hundreds of highly competitive terms being targeted across all of the main categories.

The project scope now incorporates innovative content development strategies, Social Media campaigns and a close working relationship with the client extending to usability and site conversions improvement.

A huge amount of work has been completed with much more still to be done, some highlights of changes made to the site are listed below:

  • Information architecture revised
  • On-site duplicate content/canonical issues addressed
  • Internal team trained on best practice for SEO copy writing
  • Page templates revised with SEO friendly semantic mark up
  • Hundreds of pages of tags uploaded
  • Hundreds of pages of content produced and uploaded
  • Large link building campaign undertaken
  • Blog launched
  • Twitter profile launched

Top 3 positions, nailed!

Initial campaign KPI’s focussed on pushing Ebuyer to the top of the search engines on the most competitive key phrases such as 'Cheap laptops' a term used on Google over 200,000 times per month with over 22 million websites competing for position. Seeing Ebuyer hit position 1  on Google for this term was a fantastic feeling for our agency and made for a very happy client! 

Once we had proven our expertise and shown the positive impact that SEO can drive on a site like Ebuyer our remit was widened across the site and we have repeated this pattern of success time and time again with hundreds of competitive terms in the top 3 positions on Google if not in position 1. It is a great relationship with a fantastic client that continues to go from strength to strength.
